Practical Driving Test Changes 2015

The Driving Standards Agency have made plans to change the practical driving test. The new practical driving test is already being tested out at 20 driving test centers throughout the UK.

There are many significant changes taking place. Learner drivers will be asked to follow a satnav for 20 minutes during the independent drive. The turn in the road (3 point turn) and corner reverse manoeuvres will be scrapped. To replace these traditional manoeuvres, there will be two new ones added:

1) Learner drivers will be taken to a local car park in which they will be asked to park forwards into a parking bay and then reverse back out.   2) Whilst driving, learners will be asked to park on the opposite (right) side of the road and reverse back a couple of car lengths before moving off again.

The examiner will still ask two of the show me/tell me questions but one of the questions will be asked during the drive and not at the start of the test.

These changes are being made so people are safer drivers and more ready for every day situations.

There is no confirmed date of when these changes will come into effect as only trials are being carried out at the moment. It is likely that the new practical driving test will start late 2016 if the trials are successful.
